BACKGROUND

Keeping in view the importance of water in irrigated Agriculture and its tremendous loss in the system, the Govt: of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa like other provinces launched OFWM Program in 1975 as independent attached deptt:

FUNCTIONS

• Organize farmers, able to increase the productivity of land and water on sustainable basis.
• Increasing Agriculture production and per acre wield by efficient used of irrigation water users participatory approached.
• Improving water management technology and institutional agreement.
• Improved overall efficiency of the irrigation system through capacity building of the community as well as scope.

DUTIESS

PROVINCIAL LEVEL

• Preparation of feasibility report and planning of different developmental project.
• Preparation of PC-II & PC-Is
• Preparation and submission of Project Proposal to various national and international agencies.
• Training of farmers in proper and timely used of irrigation water according to the crop requirements

DISTRICT LEVEL

• Formation and registration of WUAs under WUA Act-1981.
• Survey, Design, Preparation of cost estimates & supervision of water course improvement and water storage tank construction.
• Ensuring the participation of farming communities and planning, implementation, operation and maintenance of schemes.
• Transferring the responsibilities of operation and maintenance of the system from the Govt: to the beneficiary.
• Combating the droughts through efficient utilization of existing resources and ground water development.
• On-Farm drainage to save million of acres of land from water logging / salinity and make the environment free of hazards    

The following major targets have been set for On-Farm Water Management Department for the year 2016-17 against which the achievements are as under:-
