Enhancing Agricultural Excellence: OFWM Hosts High-Value Crop Training
Peshawar, June 25, 2024:The Directorate General of On-Farm Water Management (OFWM), Agriculture Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hosted a training workshop on the "Potential of High Value Crops in Agro-Ecological Zones of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa." This initiative is part of the World Bank-assisted "Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Irrigated Agriculture Improvement Project (KP-IAIP)."
The workshop brought together 55 District Directors and District Officers, who gained valuable insights into identifying and cultivating high-value crops suitable for the diverse agro-ecological zones of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Participants learned about advanced agricultural techniques, sustainable farming practices, and innovative water management strategies to maximize crop yield and economic returns.
Mr. Shahid Mehmood, a participant in the training session, remarked, "This workshop has provided us with the necessary tools and knowledge to enhance our agricultural practices. The focus on high-value crops is particularly beneficial for improving the livelihoods of farmers in our region."
Mr. Bakht Ali, Focal Person KP-IAIP highlighted the significance of the workshop, stating, "We aim to equip our agricultural professionals with the latest techniques and information to support sustainable agriculture. The training on high-value crops is a critical step towards achieving agricultural excellence in KP."
Under the KP-IAIP, OFWM consistently conducts training workshops to elevate the capacity of Agriculture Department officials, trainer’s/extension workers, farmers, and private sector members. This commitment underscores the project's dedication to fostering practical skills and knowledge for the holistic advancement of water resource management.
